Final Charlie Update 3/30/08 All, Charlie is doing very well. Last I spoke with him he was looking forward to going back to work soon.
Good News Update on Charlie 11/15/07 I'm happy to report that Charlie has been moved out of LA County and into Pomona Valley Hospital. And, he's feeling much better. I actually got to speak with him on the phone today and was able to share some of your well wishes. He asked me to pass along his sincere thanks to all for your concern and support and to let you all know that he is looking forward to having visitor in the near future.
Regarding visiting, Charlie is still due to have the additional surgery on his leg, hopefully sometime in the next few days. I'll be sure and post an update once that surgery is complete and he's had a few days to recover and adjust to his meds. At that time, he will welcome any visitors with open arms.
In the meantime, if you'd like to send a card or other message to him, I've listed the hospital information below. His room is temporary, but you do not need a room number to get things to him.
Pomona Valley Hospital Attn: Charlie Arviso 1798 N. Garey Avenue Pomona, CA 91767 (909) 865-9500
Again, thanks to everyone for your support. You all rock!
Charlie Update 11/13/07: The move to San Antonio Community (SACH) did not happen as planned. Charlie's doctor would like to get him into Pomona Valley and they are waiting for a bed to open. So, he remains at LA County for the time being.
Charlie was supposed to have another reconstructive surgery on his leg this week, but I'm assuming they are going to wait until after the transfer if possible. That said, I think it might be best to wait to visit until after he's had a chance to recover a bit from the upcoming surgery. Charlie has had some side effects from the pain medication and I think his family may prefer that visitors wait until he's more comfortable and aware. However, I'll check-in with his family and get their wishes to pass along.
I know there are a lot of people who would like to visit. And I know Charlie would love it. But remember that he's got a long recovery ahead and is really going to appreciate those visits as he starts to get a bit stir crazy.
You have all responded so wonderfully to the email that went out yesterday. When I think of the Class of 1985, it's the "Class" part that sticks out the most. Truly, you guys are great! I know Charlie and his family will be joyfully overwhelmed by your responses. Thank you!
IMPORTANT NEWS 11/9/07 For those of you who may not be aware, Charlie Arviso was in a serious car accident last Friday night, 11/2/07.
The good news is he is alive, out of any danger and starting to flirt with his nurses. The bad news is he has some significant injuries to the left side of his body. Charlie suffered multiple fractures with the most serious being compound fractures (bone through the skin) in both his femur and fibula. His doctors are still evaluating some of the less serious injuries to his hand, fingers, ankle and pelvis. Thankfully, he did not suffer any brain damage, spinal injuries or serious internal injuries. Due to the severity of his injuries, recovery is expected to be quite long. Please keep Charlie and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Annette
Here's is how you can help. Please send an e-mail to the Big Bear High Foundation or to Al Waner <awaner@earthlink.net> congratulating Elena upon her retirement. I know she would especially like to hear from her former students and fellow teachers and staff. If you want to send a note to Elena her address is Elena Peavy, Box 1628, Big Bear Lake, California, 92315. She has made many contributions as a language teacher and drama coach at the high school and at Chatuaqua. She will be missed!!!!! Al Waner
Charlie's mother, Patsy, said that he is getting excellent care and that the LA Clippers (his employer) have been wonderful. Charlie's family is holding up well, although they are a bit tired from a very long week and lots of activity.
I'll continue to post updates on the status of Charlie's recovery from time-to-time. The family is very appreciative of the love and support they've received. Because they are receiving so many calls and inquiries, I would like to try and give them a bit of a break. If you would like to get an update on Charlie's condition, please feel free to email me and I'll share the most current status with you. I'll be in contact with Charlie's family once a week for now, and I'm on an email list to receive updates.

Sad Ending for Our Former Classmate, Brian Robillard I'm sorry to report that Brian Robillard's body was found today, 4/18/06. See following email I received from Dan Enger:– so deep that the Search and Rescue Team's cadaver dogs were unable to find him. He was found on April 17 partially submerged in Mill Creek, by a man using a metal detector to look for valuables dropped by the frequent sledders in the area. Detectives speculate that Robillard may have slid down the steep embankment on the edge of the creek. Coroners confirmed his identity on the scene.
Some sad news about our classmate, Brian Robillard I received this information from Danny Enger and Todd Burton of the class of 86. Brian left the Village March 20 and hasn't been seen since. He was walking to Cedar Lake Camp, which is owned by his parents and where he was staying. He never made it to the camp. Here is a link to the story form the Grizzly.
